The fourth annual Writerwerx University Short Story contest is now open for submissions. For nearly half a decade Writerwerx University has been pitting writers against one another for the sake of the craft, a bit of fun, and (of course) bragging rights!
Who can enter the short story contest?
Any US citizen over the age of 18.
When does the contest open?
August first of each year.
When does the short story contest close?
August 31st of each year. Your entry must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EDT (Atlanta time).
What kind of short stories are allowed?
Any and all! Fiction and nonfiction are both welcome. This includes everything from instructional pieces to erotica to spiritual wellness.
What are the submission guidelines for the Writerwerx University short story contest?
- Writer is 18 years old or more at time of submission.
- Writer is a US citizen or permanent resident.
- Entry is no longer than 2,000 words.
- Entry is submitted as a PDF.
- Entry contains only the title of the story and the story itself.
- Entry does not contain any identifying information about the author, such as name, email address, or photo.
- Entry does not contain any extraneous information such as illustrations, past wins, or company logos.
- Entry is written in English in an easy-to-read typeface such as Times New Roman or Garamond.
- Entry is submitted by or before 11:59 p.m. EDT on August 31st of the contest year.
How much does it cost to enter?
The entry fee for each piece is $25.
What can writers win?
First Place: $2,500 in cash and prizes with a cash minimum of $150.
Second Place: $1,500 in cash and prizes with a cash minimum of $75.
Third Place: $150 in cash and prizes with a cash minimum of $25.
Each writer who submits three or more stories can win all three prizes for a total prize value of $4,150!
