What is the Writerwerx University Short Story Contest?

This is our annual contest for short lit writers. This is our fourth year and as the pool of contestants grows, so does the amount of amazing talent we get to see from both the indie and trade authors around the country!

Who can enter the short story contest?

Anyone over the age of 18 who is a resident or citizen of the United States.

When does the short story contest open?

August 1st of each year. The contest is open for the entire month, with the deadline being 11:59 p.m., EDT (Atlanta time) on August 31st.

How long can my short story be?

Up to 2,000 words. Pieces shorter than 2,000 words are also acceptable. Just make sure it’s good, no matter how short it is!

What can I win?

This contest has three places, but they are not exclusive! That means that, so long as you enter at least three stories, you have the potential to win all three places. It hasn’t happened yet, but there’s a first time for everything! Also, the portion of your prize that is cash (versus prizes) increases with the amount of entries that are received. So, the more people who enter, the more likely you are to win prizes that are 100% liquid cash. For this contest, the prizes amount to over $3,000 dollars, with a minimum of $25 cash for the third place winner.

How do I enter the Writerwerx University short story contest?

Entering is fast and easy.

Before the contest opens, head to our contests page or Facebook page to sign up for the newsletter for people interested in writing and publishing. This ensures that you’ll receive notifications when the contest opens.

After August 1st, you can head to the contest page and click the ‘Enter Now’ link to go to the entry form. Remember to read the contest terms and conditions in full before entering!

K. and I look forward to seeing what fantastic literary experiences you’ll be offering this year!
