New writers:
I encourage you to take it as fact that PERFECTION DOES NOT EXIST.
Please stop holding your work back from the world because you’re trying to achieve some random notion of flawlessness.
Everyone is not going to like what you write. That’s normal. Every human being has different tastes in art, especially literature, so it makes sense that there will be people who don’t think your work is their cup of tea.
You’re not writing for those people.
You’re writing your dark, interracial erotica for people who like dark, interracial erotica.
You’re writing your Idaho-based rom-com series for people who like Idaho-based rom-coms.
You’re writing your mutant puppy superhero books for people who like mutant puppy superheroes.
The same way you mind the business that pays you, write to the audience that reads you.
Trying to be all things to all readers is exhausting and can quickly lead to burnout. But when you decide that you are going to focus on writing for your niche market, you take a huge burden off your shoulders.
This creates a smoother, less stressful journey for you as an author.
And remember, if authors wrote perfect first drafts, I’d be out of a job! 😃
Your book development team will help carry your manuscript across the finish line. You don’t have to do it all on your own. Trying to write in a vacuum doesn’t get good results anyway (as far as I’ve seen over the past 10+ years in this industry).
I hope you spend the rest of the day writing imperfectly and enjoying every minute of it! ♥
